Ridley Scott gerir kvikmynd um leiðtogafundinn í Höfða

Ridley Scott, einn besti kvikmyndaleikstjórinn nútímans, hefur tilkynnt að hann muni gera kvikmynd um leiðtogafundinn í Höfða. Fundur Mikhails Gorbachev og Ronalds Regan  markaði eins og flestir vita enda Kaldastríðsins.

Ég hef ekki rekist á þessa frétt í íslenskum fjölmiðlum, en hér að neðan er fréttin öll:

WASHINGTON, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Academy Award Nominated Director Ridley Scott today announced his company, Scott Free Productions, will team up with a group of entertainment and political veterans on a film project about the now famous Summit at Reykjavik which marked the beginning of the end of the Cold War.

The full length motion picture will capture the drama that surrounded the 1986 Summit which eventually led to Ronald Reagans historic demand of Mikhail Gorbachev to tear down this wall. The film will also for the first time provide an inside perspective into the two world leaders who set into motion irreversible events that culminated in the elimination of an entire class of nuclear weapons, the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War.

Ridley Scott is considered one of the worlds leading directors. He is as a three-time Academy Award nominated director for Black Hawk Down (2002), which won two Oscars; for the epic adventure Gladiator (2001), his dramatic evocation of ancient Rome that grossed over $800 million worldwide and won five Oscars; and Thelma and Louise (1992), the feminist American road trip film that starred Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis. His most recent film, American Gangster, starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe has received critical acclaim as one of the best movies of 2007.

Scott Frees producing partner is Emmy-nominated producer Mark Sennet, co-creator of HBOs acclaimed political drama K Street. Sennet is currently in production of Clandestine," James Elroys prequel to "LA Confidential."

Joining the group as Executive Producers are Jere Sullivan, European Vice Chairman for Edelman, the worlds largest independent communications firm and Ken Adelman, foreign policy expert and part of the negotiating team for Ronald Reagan in Reykjavik. Also Executive Producing is venture capitalist Craig Sheftell, of Fallbrook Capital who will manage all fund raising aspects of the project.

This is an exciting project, because it will capture a defining historic moment by setting in motion the events that ended the Cold War, said Ridley Scott. It will also offer a unique insight into the two men -- Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev -- who were center stage on that cold, rainy October weekend in Iceland.

Currently the team is interviewing a number of recognized and accomplished writers to finalize the screenplay and is in discussion with directors, including Scott, to direct the movie in 2008.

The drama surrounding the high stakes negotiations at the Reykjavik Summit ranged from the ridiculous to the sublime -- from the antics of the KGB and CIA in the basement of the Hofti House where the summit took place to the all night, often heated, negotiation sessions between the Americans and the Russians.

As an arms control negotiator working directly with Ronald Reagan, I was given the unique opportunity to participate in a historic moment which was truly exhilarating, said Ken Adelman. But perhaps most rewarding was the first hand perspective I was provided of the Presidents conviction to rid the world of nuclear weapons and his total commitment to ending the Cold War.

Current plans are to begin production of the film in mid 2008 with completion by years end.
